Yes, what, 24 years later and I'm heading back to Cuba...

I'm sure that nothing has changed. Yeah, definitely looking forward to seeing how the Soviet machine continues to prop up the island nation... what's that? oh yeah, damn. Well, what with reconciling with the US and all, I'm sure it will be spic and span and brimming with optimism... hmmm, yes, you're right...

Well, looking forward to this quick research trip nonetheless!

Am off to check out the Habana Libre Hotel and the Nacional for my forthcoming hotel and cultural theory book. I've been getting stick from people who scoff at the idea of a research trip in Cuba but then I remind them that I actually like winter and would rather hang out in Toronto for Reading Week, but alas, they never believe me.

Internet access is spotty apparently down there so there won't be any updates but what with this long lay-off anyway, that won't be much of a surprise!
